When I first started working at my job almost two years ago, I always made sure I was there… on time… or super early if I could.
I never called off.
I always came in on my days off to help.
I always stayed hours later than I should’ve.
Now, I regret it all.
About a month ago, I was extremely tired. So tired, that I honestly felt like if I went to work I would’ve passed out.
Guess what I did?
Went to work.
On that day, I picked up the slack for multiple people and didn’t even get a chance to take a break.
Before I left, the director of the store talked about everything that was wrong with the department.
There was not one thank you.
And at this moment, I knew I was putting this job before my self.
After that I started calling off when I needed rest or simply just a day to myself.
I started only working my shift and leaving on time.
I don’t even answer the phone when they call me on my days off.
Never put a job before yourself.
You deserve to be healthy.
You deserve to be happy.
Take days off when you need to.
I didn’t even realize I was doing that. I just thought I was being a reliable employee.
I’m really happy I noticed this before it was too late.
Has anyone else put a job before themselves?
What lesson did you learn?
